Very tense chapter. It seems they're putting all their faith into Senku. You can do it! I'm cheering for him.

Also, cool color page of the Season 2 announcement.

Shit was fire as always. Boiichi's art is Godtier bro. Senku gonna have to come up with something awesome to stop the medusa and uncover the true origin of petrification, can't wait to see it. I really enjoy Ibarra as a villian, he's genuinely well thought out and well written. Perfect contrast to the brawn of Tsukasa

Am I the only one who thinks the author shot himself in the foot by introducing the petrification device in this arc? I mean, this is the island where Senku's dad and his companions lived, how the hell is he going to explain the petrification device being there and people knowing how to use it?

I thought this arc would be something like "go to the island, grab the stuff left by Senku's dad inside the spaceship and then deal with whatever problem that happens there". But then the problem turned out to be the fucking petrification device that they were supposed to go to another continent in order to find.

The author did a great fucking job in undermining their journey and jumping the gun by introducing this shit way too early.

I thought the same at first. But I'm trusting the author to explain. The Medusa is likely going to be the next plot thread (as in where did it come from) that determine the next destination on the journey.

Very tense and dynamic chapter. And very dramatic as well. Damn, I thought there might be eventually a disaster in which most of people on this island would be become petrified, but this is even better. I mean, better for the plot, because I would never want to experience the petrification ray twice. ;p

Senku is last man standing and everyone entrusted their hopes to him. I have a feeling that maybe Gen or Magma might be out there somewhere as well, but for now on Senku must believe in himself and his abilities.

We must all agree that Ibara is a cool villain. Cunning, cruel and ruthless usurper having access to the worst weapon ever created by humans.

Last but not least: Boichi's art style just never ceases to amaze me. His talent to present beautiful visuals and dynamism if a scene requires its certain intensity, is just marvelous.

I think the petrification device was given to them by aliens?

I don't know if I can trust the author. It doesn't matter how much I try, I just can't see a good explanation for why the Medusa is on this island and why people know how to use it. I mean, civilization was fucking gone, so who the hell would be able to go to that island and give that device to the people there and teach them how to use it? Aliens? Sentient robots? It seems like whatever the author comes up with it's going to be a huge pile of bullshit.

Also, they already had a set destination for their journey. They already knew they had to go to South America because that's where the petrification ray started expanding from. They only stopped on this island because Senku wanted to get the materials that were left to him by his step-dad. I was expecting some form of conflict but not something that could very well be already leading to the finale of this manga.

No one knows shit about the petrification device yet. No one knows who made it, why they used it on the whole planet and much less who made a mini version of it and gave it to the people living on the island where the Soyuz crew lived in. And I sure hope it's not aliens, because that would be the biggest bullshit ever.

The pétrification device that was introduced to us is probably not the one that turned humanity to Stone.
1st it doesn’t protect the person holding it. I really don’t know how the one controlling it could escape the light. Maybe the original device is really big and he could control it from the inside not to get touch. Or it works differently from the one we already know.

2nd when humanity was petrified the beam only touched the Earth, but the one we know works within a spheric area, so if it was the one used to first petrify everyone it would mean the origin was the heart of Earth. Or maybe it was actually a spheric pattern but we can’t see colours in space.

Anyway there is still the why-man, who knows about technology, and thus is different from Ibara and the others who can use it but doesn’t understand it.
And there is no way the mastermind would give the pétrification device to Ibara who doesn’t even use it intelligently. Like there is no goal behind all his doings. He just petrifies people he doesn’t like and keeps control of an harem. So useless. I’m wondering how and why he got the device.

And maybe the fact that they encountered the device so early in their journey is just so they can bring it home and heal Tsukasa. Then he will be part of the story again and they could go to the end of the world together to find the why-man who represents the real treat. Moreover if he must have lots of scientific tools (very developed ones because he probably took care of them without letting them get spoil all those years) so the Kingdom of science is totally not ready for this encounter.

"I mean, civilization was fucking gone, so who the hell would be able to go to that island and give that device to the people there and teach them how to use it?"

We assumed the whole civilization is gone. But we don't know how the petrification ray occured, whether it's intentional or accidental, whether it's men-made or something else. We don't know if it's a person or multiple people using the device on the rest of the world with them surviving. We don't know if they have a way to unpetrify people. We don't know anything. So anything is probable at this point. You just gotta keep an open mind and stop doubting and trust the author.
